Your child is ready for braces. What’s next? We’ll gather some information by taking records (photos, x-rays) to make the best treatment plan for your child. After the records are taken you will meet with Dr. Gelnett to discuss the best form of treatment.
For many kids they are excited to start braces and can’t wait to get them on, YAY! For some they are less excited and/or nervous. We will work with you and your child to make the process as comfortable as possible.
We know most of our patients have not had braces before - it is a new experience. With new experiences sometimes comes anxiety. Whether your child is anxious or not our goal is to make their journey with braces as fun as possible. At each appointment we let your child know what to expect at this and the following visit, particularly at the beginning of treatment. If your child has any anxieties please let us know so we can best accommodate and, hopefully, help to alleviate some of it. Best of all, we do not have any needles in the office!
Most of our younger patients are treated with metal braces that have colors over them; picking the colors is often the part they enjoy the most. Rainbow, candy cane, July 4th colors - we can do any combination they chose and they get to change them each visit! We find the kids really enjoy picking out the colors and changing them at each appointment. For our older teenagers who are looking for a more aesthetic look, clear braces or clear aligners may be an option for them.
